MOSCOW – Vladimir Putin won Sunday’s presidential election in Russia, according to exit polls reported by state television. But the opposition and independent observers said the vote was marred by widespread fraud.
Putin won 59% of the vote, according to an exit poll conducted by VTsIOM for the first Russian TV channel. The Communist Party candidate Gennady Zyuganov came in second, with 18% of the vote, according to this survey.
