Chavez in Cuba for radiotherapy

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez arrived in the night of Monday to Tuesday in Cuba to attend the last round of radiation therapy against the cancer, local media reported on Tuesday.

“On his arrival in Havana, President Hugo Chavez was warmly welcomed by the President of the State Council and Council of Ministers of Cuba, Raul Castro,” write the Cuban media.

Continued treatment of President Chavez in Cuba had been previously approved by the parliament of the Bolivarian State.

Last June, during a visit to Cuba, Hugo Chavez was diagnosed with cancer and underwent emergency surgery twice. Since then, he regularly travels to Havana to continue his treatment and submit to examinations.

M.Chavez, in power since 1999, plans to take part in the upcoming Venezuelan presidential to be held on October 7. The head of state will face Henrique Capriles, candidate of the Venezuelan opposition.
