The avalanche that swept Saturday on the basis of a battalion of the Pakistan army in the Himalayas has left 135 feared dead, including 124 military announced the Western media referring to the country’s armed forces.
“One hundred thirty-five people, including 124 soldiers and eleven civilians were buried under a huge snow” said in a statement from the Pakistani army, quoted by the press.
The avalanche hit a battalion headquarters in the glacier’s Gayari sector at 5:45 am, local time (6:45 UTC) east of the Karakoram Mountains on the border with India. The previous record of 30 deaths were reported.
